Roading

What do you think we should do?

Alternative option: Keep roading renewals at the current level?

Any other comments on roading renewals:

I am submitting on behalf of Te Aroha Cobras Junior Football Club, a local rate payer and as a parent of children at Stanley Avenue School. I am happy to pay increased rates that enhance our community for our children, provide activities and keep them safe. I am not happy to pay increased rates that solely focus on delivering the fundamental core services when this was the last increase and does not focus on the above ground impacts of our community as well as the below ground. Increases will be necessary to support growth of our community over the next 10 years but need to be limited, I appreciate this is a tricky balance for Council but we cannot just focus on the current financial situation or we will not see the future for our town and in 10 years will be here talking about the same things. Our town is growing and we should be encouraging people to come here with families, business and new culture. I have knowledge that Stanley Avenue School is presenting a submission for an improved carpark, school drop zone and pedestrian crossing. I completely support this as a parent of Stanley Avenue School knowing the dangerous roading congestion and lack of suitable parking flow or pedestrian crossing for that area during mornings and afternoons and out of school hours. It is only through extra effort of the teaching staff to 'man' roadways to ensure a safe exit of the children that accidents have not occurred. In out of school hours the car park is often used by our Football club on training nights and Saturday morning games as the only entrance to Boyd Park football end is a pedestrian entrance gate and grass verge parking. An enhanced carpark and pedestrian crossing will be safer for all children accessing the park and vice versa on weekends accessing the school grounds for sports and activities by our community which happens often. Our community will grow in the next 10 years, so our school, sports and community activities will naturally grow with it. In 2022 the Junior Football club membership was 72, last year 115 and this year it is 140. How are we going to support safe access and use of not only the school but also our parks with this ongoing growth? Yes there is a carpark at the Memorial stand and Event centre but no, users do not park down there for immediate access as this is the opposite end of a large park. It provides overflow parking but not direct access. In comparison to other District Sports facilities; Pohlen park has a Western St carpark with direct access. Matamata Domain has street parking the length of Hohaia St and a Huia St carpark with direct access. Morrinsville Rec has the Cureton St carpark with direct access and Campbell Park has ample off street parking with direct access. Boyd Park has been neglected for suitable comparison parking for our community for a park that is used by both Rugby and Football and now markets. This would provide a multi focussed carpark solution not only for the school but for our community users of Boyd Park that provides the equivalent of our other towns and safety for our users. Thankyou. (I am happy to come and verbally present this if you would like to request I do).
